Not many pain-killers still have an effect one year after taking them. In fact, the tendency with pharmaceutical pain relief is for the body to become more and more accustomed to the drugs so that higher and higher doses are required – which brings with it unpleasant side-effects. Not so acupuncture. A recent research paper (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/27764035) on chronic pain has shown that approximately 90 per cent of the benefits of acupuncture still remains even a year after finishing a course of treatment. This means that acupuncture is not only a cost-effective choice for chronic pain, but actually gets you better (rather than just masking pain).
