Menopausal symptoms? No sweat for acupuncture treatment

‘Review of reviews’ supports use of acupuncture for menopause symptoms

A large systematic review (a ‘review of reviews’) – the apex of the hierarchy of scientific evidence –  has found that acupuncture works for menopausal symptoms. American researchers included three systematic reviews and four randomised controlled trials (involving a total of 1823 women) in their study. Acupuncture was found to be significantly effective for reducing hot flushes and night sweats, and thus improving women’s quality of life. Some of the studies even showed that these improvements were maintained for a year or more. The authors concluded that this evidence supports the use of acupuncture in the treatment of menopause-related symptoms. So if you or someone you know is suffering – find yourself an acupuncture practitioner! (Management of Menopause Symptoms with Acupuncture: An Umbrella Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
